Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

  • Focus on the engineering of offshore wind development activities in Northern Europe from origination to construction hand-over.
  • Secure value creation by developing and optimising wind power projects which are technically and economically viable.
  • Support the overall business objectives of the development projects with regards to timeline, agreed scope, specifications and quality, and regulatory/permitting.
  • Supports the identification of viable sites for wind project development, using knowledge of site conditions, transmission, permitting and environmental issues.
  • Manages wind project engineering activities on multiple projects, including site identification, feasibility studies, technical investigation, grid connection, environmental studies, consenting and surveys.
  • Manages engineering works within budgets and programmes for the development phase.
  • Identifies and maintains relationship with OEMs and EPC contractors and presents suggestions to the senior management.
  • Prepares reports on project status for the Steering Committee and our Senior Management group.
  • Manages procurement activities for engineering services required for the development phase.
  • Understands technical solutions for projects and the economic benefits of alternative approaches and consults with the commercial project manager to agree bid development and strategy.
  • Assists in negotiating EPC contracts and maintenance contracts.
  • Provides input to O&M strategy for wind projects and derive technical inputs for financial models.
  • As projects advance in the development process, duties may include working with other staff regarding off-take of power, project modelling, project proposals, arrangements for finance, construction and operations, and other matters.
  • Leads technical studies into energy storage and hydrogen electrolysis business models. Researches energy storage and hydrogen electrolysis applications and opportunities.
  • Monitors future renewable technologies and provide senior management with regular updates on new market trends.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • At least 7-12 years professional experience  
  • Extensive experience of the wind energy industry is essential, preferably with offshore wind farms
  • Understanding of offshore wind early engineering phase including consenting, conceptual design, and experience of performance modelling software
  • Experience of the basic design and functional specification of renewable projects
  • Understanding of floating offshore wind technology and development considerations
  • Knowledge of and interest in the application of energy storage and hydrogen electrolysis as a part of renewable energy projects
  • Project management expertise is highly desirable and a track record of success including good HSE performance on previous projects is required
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary engineering team and manage external advisors
  • Thorough understanding of the commercial issues relating to wind farm development is important with an understanding of commercial implications of technical assumptions (yield data, generation optimization)
  • Understanding of all project phases allowing decisions to be taken that are optimised across the whole project lifecycle
